Letting go of the past is very powerful and just might be how you can begin finding joy in your life.
Individuals talk about never having had true happiness in their past.
They’re busy worrying about the future being of this same lack. Finding joy in your life needs nobody else’s authorization, recognition, or approval.
In book 1 of the series the goal is…Finding joy in your life is totally within yourself and you have the power to let it shine through.
A Course in Miracles states, “Littleness and glory are the choices open to your striving and your vigilance. You always choose one at the expense of the other.”
Your personal joy is what you have total control over and while bringing forth joy and happiness only sometimes seems to be an effort, you simply cannot rely on the past or forecasting the future to do it for you.
(I suggest answering to What will I do with my Life and how to us reflection principles.)
Then why can’t many let go of the past and stop worrying about the future?
Let me share a brief story about finding joy in your life:
A dying man lies on an emergency room gurney. As he reaches the point of greatest physical distress, he hears himself pronounced dead by the doctor.
He begins to hear an uncomfortable noise, a loud ringing or buzzing, and at the same time feels himself moving rapidly above his own physical body.
Though still in the same immediate physical environment, he sees his body from a distance, as though he is a spectator.
He watches the many resuscitation attempts from this vantage point and experiences a state of emotional upheaval.
After a time he collects himself and becomes more accustomed to his condition. It is reminiscent of something familiar.
He notices that he doesn’t have a body any longer and realizes he is now limitless, possessed with powers his body never realized.
But these powers are not new at all, and now he remembers them from before he ever had a body, before his physical birth. This adds to his already tremendous bliss.
Some other things begin to happen.
Others who are also of a limitless nature arrive to greet him and join him in the same blissful existence.
He has glimpses of the spirits of relatives and friends, and all whom he read about in history books, and these glimpses turn into a unified presence. He is at-one with all of them, as a single peaceful presence.
He notices a shared loving, warm, and gentle white light that envelops him, yet is limitless.
At some point he finds himself approaching some sort of barrier or borderland, apparently representing a limit to particular thoughts. This borderland reveals to him that he is able to go back to Earth if he so chooses.
The Borderland
All he must do is simply look to the past and relive the appropriate bordering, past thoughts.
He sees that the thoughts themselves will send him back. But without hesitation he resists, and rather chooses to be taken up with the experiences of being safe at Home.
His choice not to return is enough.
He is overwhelmed with intense feelings of joy, peace, love, and contentment.
He is convinced in that instant, which seems to be all there is in the definition of time.
The Holy Instant
The running together of instants or what A Course in Miracles calls the “Holy Instant,” is a Oneness he accepts called eternity. We can also call it the Now.
Age of anything is nonexistent and has no meaning, as he realizes eternity, or, the now, is the only real time he has ever had, and now ever will have.
He thinks to himself that perhaps living within rather than outside oneself is the answer to finding joy in your life.
He discovers that all of the unreality he perceived and participated in while on Earth was the obstruction to the blissful and peaceful eternal time he now has available to himself.
