How to get better at writing and making a career of it certainly begins by committing to always follow your heart. For me becoming an author is a dream come true.
If it’s in your heart to do so, and if I can from the harshest of barbaric conditions imaginable, then so can you, too.
Here’s what I mean:
It was the first time I overheard someone whisper, “He’s the author”, as I walked into a book signing, that I suddenly realized that I had achieved something very special.
Not only had I managed to get my books published that I’d handwritten from a prison cell, I now received respect and admiration from total strangers.
There were no computer resources in the Ohio prison system, but it is so true when they say always follow your heart.
Upon my release from that volatile and often violent din of the cell block after 8 long years over a foolish securities violation as a financial adviser, a career I loathed, my first book was in stores.
Inner Freedom does come from Following your Heart
Becoming a free man and being an author even in today’s digitized world, is still an awe-inspiring accomplishment.
In the New York Times it reported over eighty percent of world citizens say they plan on becoming an author and learning to how to get better at writing someday.
I think the critical word here is ‘Get Better’.
You can begin right now by understanding how to get better at writing will improve your life if you want to be someone who really does write a book.
You must perceive it right-mindedly within you and then reflect it to your material world, thus making it an accomplishment.
When you learn reflection principles and how to make your life better and achieve dreams and goals, you can can do whatever you choose in all truth because your heart is meant to be followed.
But you must take action on going for it.
The Course in Miracles states, “Perfect perception, then, has many elements in common with knowledge, making transfer to it possible.”
Here is my list why you should go for becoming an author today, especially if you are a spirituality, self-help or personal growth lover:
- Authors are recognized as experts by virtue of having a book with their name on the cover.
- The media loves authors (i.e. experts) and uses them often, on all levels.
- Being an author improves your chances of getting paid speaking engagements.
- While you may not become a millionaire from writing a book, you can certainly improve your chances of increasing your income.
- You can finally shove your book under the noses of all who snubbed you in your teenage years (har, har) when you go to your high school reunion.
- If you ever felt that you weren’t ‘smart enough’, becoming an author will certainly go a long way in curing that.
- Becoming an author gives you a stronger sense of self-esteem.
- Learning how to get better at writing will create and open doors and business opportunities you wouldn’t have received without it.
- Learning how to become a successful writer gives you a platform for teaching workshops and seminars.
It’s in your Power of Choice to get Started
When I started writing my first book, which details my entire story of what went down and why I was sent to prison, I knew I was being guided.
But it wasn’t because I was sure I wanted Oprah Winfrey’s producer to have my name in her address book to call whenever she needed a ‘mystical’ New Age expert.
And I can definitely tell you I didn’t write sixteen books just to tell my old high school classmates about it.
Because I followed my heart, I wrote.
I had a story inside of me that wouldn’t rest until I put it onto the page, and it resulted in wonderful healing within me.
The Course in Miracles teaches, “All healing is release from the past.”
I will say that finishing my first book titled The Master of Everything: A Story of Mankind and the World of Illusion We Call Life, and was truly thrilling.
But the benefits of actually becoming a truly published author with a mainstream publisher, and the other “reasons” were simply an afterthought.
I can do everything short of putting a cattle prod under you to get you started on writing your self-help book, but, at the end of the day, writing has to be something you want to do.
I can tell you hundreds of great things about how to become a successful writer, but not a single one will really get you to the finish line.
You dreamt of becoming an author because you had to.
You told your friends you wanted to write a book because you could and you will.
You are an author, and you always have been.
All you need to do now is make it happen.
It might not be a prison sentence that was overtly political that puts a finished manuscript in your hands, but always following your heart can’t hurt.
(Here’s a related article on, let’s begin getting over feeling trapped in life and moving on to a great world.)
To always following your heart,
James Nussbaumer
